My toddler went to school for the first time in her life on Monday. I have been anxious, scared and worried for her. I went around shopping for everything she needs for school, making sure she gets everything and that I don't need to worry.
Every time I see her playing on her, I pull her close and hug her, I kiss her fore head, all because I am scared of letting her do any where else than her home, her comfort zone.
We prepared her for Monday, made her long hair and beaded it. When I was done making her hair, she stood up and shook her hair. Excited at the sound her beads make's when they hit each other, she turns to me and says "Mumi thank you for my fine fine hair, I like my bead. Mumi oya shake your hair"
I shook my hair, held her close my chest, kissed her head and her let her go. She quickly ran to the mirror, admires her hair and runs off to show off her hair for school.
On Monday we all (her dad, her grandmother and me) escorted her to school. We followed her to her class handed her over to her teacher and waved her goodbye. She started to cry saying that she wants to follow her mummy, then her teacher asks her, won't you love to play on the swing? She said she would love it then she turns to me and tell waves me goodbye.
I smiled at her and left. As I drove to work I felt proud of my adult and settled within me.
