I went into the bank with my cheque book to withdraw money for my account. The teller waited for me to complete filling the cheque book and presenting it to him. He took the cheque book looked at it and told me that he didn't have cash. I looked puzzled and he noticed it. He tried to explain and worsened it. He said "we do not have money in the branch right now, we can only take deposits. You can also transfer or use the ATM downstairs." If I had an ATM card will I walk into the bank to withdraw that amount. Please can a banker explain to me why a bank won't have money but the ATM machine will?

I no be banker o but make I offer one or two possibilities... Either that the teller wanted to see ur handwriting that's why he waited for u to fill out d cheque and present to him before telling u he didn't have cash, or the ATM is run by another bank (lol) or the bank is one of those failed banks (did u chk the bank's name well)or the teller is not really a teller but a boko haram implant (thus his unprofessional conduct) or the teller was bored and need to make conversation wit u and/ or annoy u to kill boredom (afterall wetin he go dey do as work if cash no dey) or the teller was a plain silly muntullah (most plausible explanation) - just saying (lol)
Nne,sometimes banks may have cash but can't pay high amounts because if they do d cash might not go round to customers who are withdrawing smaller amounts. Its easier to deal wit 1 or 2 high volume withdrawing customer than 30 smaller ones. The atm's are already loaded and sometimes dey make money from it,and some banks have a policy of not paying amounts less than N100k over the counter since the atm could dispense such amounts. Emeka okafor.
@Emeka, Even at that why wouldn't dey have cash. What if one doesn't have an atm card. Llooll abi d bank don broke
cashless society...
